Alexander Tan trained as an elementary doctor at the University of Amsterdam and then became a specialist in geriatrics at the VU
By the way, a specialist in geriatrics does not only see the elderly: yes, many are 65+ but with chronic diseases, quite a few people from the age of 40 or so also depend on that same 24/7 care
Besides working in my practice, I have also been working in the mainstream sector for almost three decades
after my hospital days, I ended up on the ambulance, taught first aid and basic medicine, vaccination doctor, doctor in various Care Centres with chronic treatment, rehabilitation, day care, diagnostics and bereavement counselling, also experience in caring for mentally handicapped people (including autism, ADHD)
In my practice, I see young people from a year or two, older children and young adults. However, the majority are between 22 and 70 from all parts of the Netherlands, Expats living and working here. And also people who come to the practice from abroad
My time in hospital made me realise how little we concern ourselves with why we get sick and what lessons we can learn from it
Never are you pointed out how to make sure you stay healthy and vital for as long as possible. Symptoms are usually 'solved' with fast-acting pills that tend to have side effects and do not give lasting results
By helping as many people as possible become healthy(er) and vital, I hope to make my contribution to making our whole society more vital
After all, everyone has a network of people around them, and if you are healthy yourself, you can continue in your own circle to play the role you have in it
chronically ill (young and old), chronic fatigue, chronic abdominal complaints, autoimmunity, Prevention (MOT of body and mind), not feeling vital any more for unknown cause, coordinated development of body and mind
What do people call the way I work
"a doctor+", "more than a regular doctor, but also not quite like an alternative therapist/doctor" or "doctor functional medicine"
What people say
Around mid-September 2013, I was rushed
hospitalised with significant inflammation of the intervertebral disc
After 2 weeks of antibiotics and morphine, I was transferred to a care facility for rehabilitation and came
being under the care of Dr Tan, who, with his refreshing insight into both mental and physical well-being for his patients, has been able to curb not only the inflammation itself, but also osteoarthritis with stunning results without excessively engaging the chemical industry
Now I am again able to do things that I had to spare due to the lack of mobility in all my joints, thanks to the insight of a man with a vision, Alexander Tan. A simple thank you
is disproportionate to the effort made to get me back on my feet
Mr Corino, Lelystad
I have been working with Alexander Tan for some time
Alexander is a very knowledgeable doctor who is not only concerned with the medicine taught in training but more importantly that the body and mind work together to ensure that the body can function properly
That this cannot be done only with the prescription of regular medicines has become clear to me since Alexander combines with remedies from phytotherapy
In patients who actually could no longer be treated further with medication for Parkinson's disease, he ensured that the person continued to get through the day more energetically for quite some time, increasing quality of life
Alexander looks very much at the balance between effect of medication and quality of life
A person's psyche is also central to Alexander. Having conversations and finding the right way to optimise quality of life and healing
I can think of few doctors who take such a broad view of the human body with all its facets as this doctor

Dr Tan treated my mother for several years. We got to know him over those years as a very careful and committed doctor who looks from the medical side to experience quality in life as optimally as possible
Excluding things step by step, listing causes and consequences, his careful manner, have made a deep impression on me as a daughter (but I also say this on behalf of my family)
His way of thinking (thinking in possibilities rather than impossibilities) meant that even the moment when the dying phase came into view, we and also our mother were able to say goodbye in a beautiful and valuable way.
We are still grateful to him every day for this

I have come to know Dr Tan as a very competent counsellor for my complaints related to type 1 diabetes
Thanks to his knowledge of both mainstream and 'other' medicine and his relentless search for the best course of treatment for his patient, I became much more energetic in a short time.
My blood levels fluctuate less and insulin requirements have also decreased significantly! And that at my age (65+)
Aug 2012 I. Gabel, Middenbeemster
Dr Alexander Tan has a rare talent for listening well to others as well as speaking clearly about treatment methods, content, medication and supplements
Besides being a physician, he is a born teacher!
Being among medical colleagues in my own professional work, I am very impressed with Alexander in knowledge, as a particularly well versed medic! All this in addition to his careful and caring approach makes it extremely nice to work with him as a colleague and to be under his supervision (compassion?) as a patient
In addition, as a patient with a serious illness myself, I have noticed how much I have benefited in just one and a half years from being able to bear the illness better physically thanks in part to supplements prescribed by Dr Tan: overall fitness in fitness, energy, strength, stamina, alertness and clarity, among other things, are some concrete aspects from which I have experienced immediate benefits

My experience with you as a doctor: I could not imagine a better doctor. From the very first meeting and subsequent questioning about the ups and downs, on my part, I was struck by how quickly you understood my physical health condition and acted accordingly. Noting that you could function exceptionally well as my GP, greeting
Mr M.P. W., Alkmaar
we experienced you, as someone who stands for his profession!
The explanation was clear and understandable for what we experienced, with different nature-based stuff which helped fine, even less hospital admissions.
It has given us more livability!
